Osteopathy

Osteopathy is the assessment and treatment of the body’s structures and rhythms using four hands-on techniques:

Soft tissue manipulation: the therapist locates and releases restrictions in the muscles, fascia and ligaments which can help improve movement, reduce pain and increase your circulation.

Articular techniques: this involves moving two joint surfaces to improve mobility and reduce pain. Clients are often moved into different positions in order to reduce the amount of energy required for the technique.

Cranial techniques: this is a gentle technique used to assess and treat the mobility of the skull and it’s contents with the goal of restoring optimal movement, which helps improve circulation of blood and other body fluids.

Visceral techniques: In the same way our joints are supported by ligaments, our organs also have similar support systems. Visceral techniques target the ligaments, fascia and the organs themselves to help restore movement with the goal of improving the function of the organ.

Every osteopathic treatment starts with a thorough review of your health history. A fair amount of time in every treatment is dedicated to assessments. This allows the therapist to properly identify a specific concern and establish a treatment plan accordingly. The client will actively participate in many of the assessments and treatment techniques, which are comprised mainly of the 4 techniques mentioned above. It is quite common for clients to feel sore for up to 36 hours after the treatment (similar to massage) as the body adjusts to the changes.

Clients are asked to bring shorts and a form-fitting shirt to the appointment.
